Bertha Wiggins Howard Obituary

Bertha was born in Williston, Florida to the proud parents of Jeff and Mattie Lee Wiggins on January 24, 1943. She was the second of twenty-four children. Bertha attended grade school and high school in Florida, growing up in the North Florida community of Archer, Florida. She leaves behind five brothers and sisters (Allen Wiggins, Otis Wiggins, Annie Mae King, Josephine Brown and Lil Jeff Wiggins).

Bertha met the love of her life, Mr. Willie Edward Howard, and later married him in June of 1973. Bertha leaves this world almost 30 years to the day after Willie’s passing on April 18, 1993. She leaves behind two children (Linda Faye Edwards and David Alexander Brennen [married to Kimberly Turner Brennen]), eight grandchildren (Lashonda McHome-Ross, Rodney McHome, Shane Edwards [married to Regan Edwards], LaToya Roberson, Clarence Roberson Brennen, Yvette Edwards, Andrew Edward Brennen and Spenser Alexander Brennen) and nineteen great grandchildren.

Bertha had several careers – all involving helping and interacting with others. She was a cosmetologist, a Social Worker for the Department of Children & Families, a banker and a public-school bus driver. In addition to her various occupations, Bertha performed many other duties during her lifetime, including helping her sisters and brothers when they needed her. As one family member put it: “She is the reason why I completed High School.” Bertha wore many hats - both as a productive citizen, friend and family member.

Bertha and Willie spent several years as members of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Central Congregation in West Palm Beach, Florida where Willie was an Elder. Bertha’s greatest joys were spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, fishing and bowling. Bertha touched many, many lives and will be deeply missed by family, friends and others. As people like to say: “Bertha never met a stranger.”

Lovingly Submitted,

Revelations 21:3-4: “With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: ‘Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

1 Corinthians 15:55-57: “’Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?’ The sting producing death is sin, and the power for sin is the Law. But thanks to God, for he gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”
