Edward Golson, an extraordinary man of honor was born in Belle Glade, Florida to the proud parents of Maceo & Mary Golson on April 27, 1948. He was the third of three children.
Edward attended Lake Shore Elementary, Lake Shore High School and he graduated from Belle Glade High school in 1966. Upon graduation, he attended Miami Dade Community College receiving an Associated Degree in Art. He was later drafted into the United Stated Army. Spending three years in the service, one which was a tour in Vietnam, he received an honorable certificate of appreciation and an accommodation medal for exceptional meritorious service as a senior draftsman. Upon returning to the states and pursuing his love of art and architecture, Ed graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in management from Ft. Lauderdale college.
Edward met Brenda Goodman in West Palm Beach, which later resulted in their years of adoring and loving marriage on May 31, 1975.
Edward was an awesome man and a wonderful and an adoring husband. He was a great Godparent to Travis Boldon, an exception Instructor in Miami, Tamesha Jones, an administrator with Duke Energy in Charlotte, NC, Dr. Marvin K. Smith, a renowned surgeon in Miami, and Ashton N. Moore, a little star in Riviera Beach, FL.
Ed distinguished himself in the field of architecture for over42 years. He began his illustrious career as an architectural renderer in Miami with the Carlos Romans Firm. He was hired at the Obst Associates Architects in 1973. Through hard and diligent work, he rose to the position of Vice President of Smith-Obst Associates, which was created when a new architect, Jeffery W. Smith joined the team. The firm eventually changed to Smith Architectural group in Palm Beach. Ed was invited to join this dynamic firm. He gave his skill and talent to many of the firms prestigious and lavish mansions and buildings in Palm Beach, Naples, and surrounding areas. Ed gave his knowledge and love to their firm for 26 years.
Ed attended the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church. He was loved by those who knew him.
Fulfilling a desire to be of greater service in many ways to his community, Ed chaired the Board of Trustees for the 100 Black Men Organization of Palm Beach County and presided as President of the 100 Black Men Organization for 3 years. He was President of the African American Cultural Arts Organization. He enjoyed playing table tennis and received a reward for his skills. He loved to build model airplanes, inventing, drawing, painting, Miami Dolphins, and Sudoku. Throughout his lifetime he accumulated an enormous number of awards and accomplishments.
If you knew him, he would touch your life. He was a blessing and a man of faith. To know him is to love him. He had a big heart and soul filled with a sense of humor, kindness, empathy, talent, and love. You could count on him to be your friend.
He is survived and deeply missed by his adoring wife Brenda; his brother, Maceo Golson Jr. (Betty) of Belle Glade, FL; his sister, Jacquelyn Moore (Johnny) of Wellington, FL; sister-in-law, Veletta Gardner of West Palm Beach, FL; a few more Brother & Sister-in-laws; nephew, Michael Adekunle of West Palm Beach, FL; godsons, Travis Boldon of Miami Beach, Dr. Marvin K. Smith of Miami; and adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ed leaves a legacy of laughter and love to all who passed his way. He was a joy to all who knew him. His unfailing dedication and devotion to his wife, family, and friends will be missed and never forgotten.
