Obituary for Edward Hickson

Edward Hickson Sr. (Edward Sr.) was born on April 21, 1934 in Sumter, South Carolina. Edward Sr. married Lucille Witherspoon on March 20, 1955. The family relocated to Lynchburg, S.C. and then to West Palm Beach, Florida in the latter part of 1955. Edward Sr. and Lucille’s primary residence during their 65+ years in West Palm Beach was in the Roosevelt Estates community where they raised and educated 6 kids with having the opportunity to go to college. Edward Sr. was very devoted to his family.

Edward Sr. was an extremely hard working man. A number of times throughout his career Edward Sr. worked multiple manual labor jobs and double shifts in order to provide for his family of 8. Early on in his career Edward Sr. was employed by the City of West Palm Beach and subsequently with Roto Rooter Plumbing and Drain Service. Edward Sr. was a very skilled plumber and enjoyed working with and training his colleagues while serving the public. Edward Sr. was known by all for his nice and warm personality and was frequently referred to as “Eddie”. Edward Sr’.s plumbing skill and leadership were increasingly recognized by Roto Rooter where he eventually served as manager of operations. Edward Sr. retired from Roto Rooter after 30 years of service. After retiring, he immediately started his own business, Eddie Sewer & Drain Service. Edward Sr. continued his very successful business for nearly 25 years until the time of his death.

Edward Sr. was a devoted member of Payne Chapel AME Church for more than 65 years. He was a dedicated member and leader of the Usher Board for many many years. Edward Sr. loved his church family
and was always willing give to serve in any capacity during worship service as well as special events.

Edward passed away unexpectedly on December 24, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, sibling, grandfather and great grandfather. Edward Sr. is survived by his wife, Lucille Hickson; daughter, Althea Hickson Cameron; sons, Edward Jr., Daryl, Mark (Kasia) and Tracy Hickson; preceded in death by daughter, Sarah Hickson Wilson; brother, Ellis Hickson; grandchildren, Mario Hickson, Tiffany Wilson, Ashley Hickson, Amber Harris, Shaterra Nacoste, William Wilson, Quira Hickson, Patrick Cameron and William Cameron III and a host of great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
