Obituary for Grace Hicks (Stewart)

Grace Stewart Hicks was born on April 25, 1940 in Buena Vista, Georgia. She was the oldest daughter of Clinton Stewart Sr. and Mary Taylor Stewart. She grew up and attended elementary and high school in Buena Vista, Georgia.

Grace left home at the tender age of 17 to pursue a life of her own. She worked in various fields such as caregiving, customer service, homemaking, and finally, as a paraprofessional with the Palm Beach County School District for more than 20 years. Following her retirement, she spent time enjoying her family, serving the lord, and caring for others.

Grace Stewart Hicks was united in holy matrimony to Hampton Hicks on March 24, 1959 and to this union, six children were born. She had a heart of gold and loved taking care of others. Mrs. Hicks was quick to take others into her home during their time of need. Grace was described as a perfectionist when cooking and always wanted her food to be “just right”. Mrs. Hicks was a member of St. John Baptist Church as a young adult for many years and later joined Temple of Jesus Christ, Inc. in 1995. She spent many years as a member of the Temple of Jesus Christ Church and was actively involved in church affairs as an usher and utilized her culinary talent to prepare fresh meals every Sunday for the pastor.

As a wife, she was hardworking, loving, and acted as a “superwoman”. As a mother, she loved us with her whole heart and implored mightily before God for us. Overall, Grace typified what it meant to be a matriarch and was viewed as the backbone of the family, always keeping things balanced and true.

Grace Hicks is preceded in death by her parents, Clinton Stewart Sr. and Mary Taylor Stewart; two brothers, William Stewart and Clinton Stewart Jr.; one sister, Mozelle Stone; husband Hampton Hicks; and one son, Clarence Hicks.

She leaves to cherish precious memories with her children: Pamela Hicks, Jeffrey Hicks (Blossom), Juanita Hicks Colleton, Hampton Edward Hicks, and Alphonso Hicks; grandchildren: Triancia (Keke) Hicks, Antonio L. Hicks, Marcus Hicks, Alphonso Hicks Jr., Joshua Colleton, & Kristina Colleton; great grandchildren: Antonio Hicks, Iyana Hicks, Jayvion Hicks, Amare Hicks, Adayshia Hicks, Elijah Perez, Kaleb Thomas, Ciara Molina, & Princeton Hicks; sisters:, Pearline Oates (Willie), Matti Haynes, & Joanne Givens; brother Robert Stewart; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
