Obituary for Katherine Calloway

Katherine Adams Calloway was born on July 29, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio from
the union of Samuel Adams and Katie Adams. She was the second oldest of eight
siblings: Binta Kikeloma (Elizabeth Jones) (deceased); Clyde Louise Adams;
Vivian Taylor; Samuel Adams, Jr.; (deceased); Ernestine Poole (deceased), Irene
Stokes; and Alexander Adams (deceased). Katherine lost her mother at the age
fifteen, along with her newborn sister, Patricia. Her father refused to separate his
children and so they grew up together and became very close. As a young girl, her
family called Katherine, “Sister.” She was always thankful that their father kept
her and her siblings together.

In 1952, Katherine joined hands in marriage to Clifford Curtis Calloway
(deceased). She is survived by their three children, Jacqueline Calloway, Clifford
Curtis Calloway, jr., and Charles Calloway. Katherine transitioned from this life
on Wednesday December 28, 2022, at 3:30 p.m.

As a young girl, Katherine learned to play the violin, and along with her older
sister, Elizabeth, sang in the church choir. She loved to draw and paint, which she
continued to do throughout her life; even enrolling in art classes for seniors while
in her eighties, after she moved to Florida to live with her daughter, Jacqueline.
She developed a close relationship with her grandson, Ahmad who would always
visit and do whatever he could to make her comfortable, and to show her pictures
of her great-great-great granddaughter, Emma, that she so enjoyed.

Prior to moving to Florida, Katherine resided in Georgia for several years where
she was able to be close to her Atlanta grandchildren, Shauna, Katherine, and
Darra who lovingly looked after her even though she was still able to live
independently. To them, she was their dear Grammy and they going to give her
all the support she needed. She was Grandma to her grandchildren in Cleveland,
her hometown. She would talk to them on the phone, which she loved to do. Her
Cleveland grandchildren are Clifford (Che) Calloway, Bronson Calloway, Talia
Warner, Savonia Calloway, and Clifford (Little Cliff) Calloway. She was very
proud of her grandchildren who lived in other states, making it more difficult to
travel. They are Charles, Ashley, Chloe, Shelby, and Mia. Whether near or far, she
loved them all immensely and always had them in her heart.

Although Katherine had not lived in Cleveland for many years, she was still very
close to her three surviving sisters, Clyde Louise (Honey), Vivian (BeBe), and
Irene ( Reeny) and she talked to them frequently on the phone. They are so
saddened to longer be able to have those sisterly conversations with their big
sister anymore. Katherine also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other family
members as well as friends who met her along her journey through this life.

Katherine, you were blessed to have lived a long life to the age of 95 and to have
had so many who love you and mourn your passing. She loved them too; for
when one of them would say to her, “I Love you,” she always responded with, “I
love you more.” Katherine you will be missed so very much. May you
rest in eternal peace.
