Obituary for Kattie Hunt (Smith)

Kattie Ree Smith Hunt, Age 100, of West Palm Beach, Florida, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend departed this life peacefully at home on Saturday, February 19, 2022. She was born October 16, 1921 in Wilcox County, Pitts, Georgia, the youngest of eight children.
Kattie received her earliest formal education at Lacey Elementary and Snowhill Middle Schools in Wilcox County. She attended Rochelle High School, graduated with honors and was recognized as the class salutatorian. Kattie entered into matrimony with the late Oscar Cecil Hunt in 1939. They relocated to Florida with their young family in 1944 in search of a better life. Nine children came from this union.
She was a devout and dedicated member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church for 74 years where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as a Deaconess and as a member on several committees. She worked as a domestic worker and in child care. Through the years Kattie was actively involved in community and civic activities which included neighborhood clubs, City Wide Deaconess and the Eastern Stars.
Everyone loved and adored this woman of God. Kattie touched many lives and will be truly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents Bascom and Bertha Smith; her husband Oscar Cecil; her sons Arthur Curtis, Otis and Oscar Jr.; her youngest daughter Venus and grandchildren Tarra and Terrance Hunt.
Left to cherish the many memories include her children Elois Wright (Robert) Port St. Lucie, Fla, Vivian J. Lewis (Jerry) Silver Spring, Md., Ronnie Hunt (Linda) West Palm Beach, Fl, Chris Bain (Larry) Freeport, Bahamas, and Frances Y. Francis (Alphonso) Boynton Beach, Fla; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday March 4, 2022 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church 911 9th Street West Palm Beach, Fla. Public Viewing on Thursday March 3, 2022.
